My cartilage piercing HURTS.?

So my friend pierced my cartilage with a needle yesterday afternoon. The earring is new i have never used it yet so it's pretty sanitary. The piercing stopped hurting after like a half hour yesterday. But when i woke up this morning it started to hurt pretty bad. It still hurts a little. It's swollen and red. Is it normal since it's only the day after i pierced it? I'm scared it was done wrong or it's in a bad place. Help!
